QUADRIENNIAL RULES REVISION PROJECT

The TFSC is currently undergoing a rules review as provided by Texas Government Code §2001.039. The Commission intends the updated rules to improve ease of use for both consumers and industry and to improve efficiencies for agency staff as the new rules are reordered and clarified.

The proposed changes to Chapters 205, 206, 207 and 209 were published in the Texas Register on October 3, 2014. They were open for a 30 day comment period and were finally adopted by Commissioners on December 9, 2014. The updated rules can be found on the TFSC Governing Laws page.

The proposal to update Chapters 201 and 203 was considered by Commissioners at the June 9, 2015, meeting. The proposal will be published in the Texas Register for a 30 day comment period later this month. Final action could take place as early as the September 15, 2015, Commission meeting. The following proposal incorporates changes to statute made by the 84th Legislature.

MORTUARY LAW EXAM

The TFSC will begin offering the Mortuary Law Exam online this Fall. Currently, the exam is only offered once a month in Austin, excluding November and December. By moving to an online exam, applicants will avoid the cost of traveling to Austin and be able to take the exam at the time and location of their choice. The TFSC will be updating the questions asked on Mortuary Law Exam this summer. If you are interested in helping to develop a new updated exam, please contact the Executive Director.
